Home of the Miss Holmen Pageant

The Miss Holmen Scholarship Program is affiliated with the Miss America Scholarship Program, which is the largest provider of scholarship dollars for young women. This program not only helps young women to meet their educational goals by providing scholarship dollars, but it also helps young women to strengthen their communication skills as they will have the opportunity to promote Children’s Miracle Network (Miss America has adopted CMN as their national platform) as well as other issues of their choice in their community.  The winner of the Miss Holmen Pageant will earn a $2,000 scholarship and the chance to compete for more scholarship money in the Miss Wisconsin Pageant the following June.

Do I qualify to enter?
You must be 17-24 years old and have lived for at least six months or work full-time or are registered as a full-time student in Holmen. You also qualify if you are a Holmen High School graduate and your parents still live in the Holmen School District.  You must be a citizen of the United States of America.  Also have never been pregnant, and are to be of good moral character.

What does it cost to enter?
The Miss America Program has partnered with the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) for its national platform.  This means a change from individual platforms requiring community service.  There is still no entry fee for the Miss Holmen program, but contestants are asked to raise $100.00 for CMN Of this, 20% comes back to the Miss Holmen Program.  This is set up through a web process that allows you to email family and friends to ask for their support.  Do not let this commitment discourage you, if you don’t know 10 people to contact for this commitment, we will help you by providing you with some additional names.

How is it judged?
Olympic judging style is used. A contestant is given a score between one and ten immediately after she competes in each area. Each young woman competes against a judging standard where a 10 is a Miss America, rather than the other contestants.

What do you have to do to be a part of the Miss Holmen Scholarship Program?
Each contestant who participates must sign a contract with the local pageant officials and have a photo taken for the pageant program book.

The day of competition has 5 parts to it:
1. Presentation and Community Achievement in Private Interview (25%) - which takes place in the afternoon of the pageant. You are offered a 10-minute long interview with a panel of five judges. The judges ask questions for the first nine and one-half minutes. The last 30-seconds is an optional part for you to add anything you think is important.

The judges base questions off your FACT SHEET and current events, including issues that face young women today. The fact sheet is exactly what it says, facts about you, education, accomplishments, interests, etc. The fact sheet is only a one-sided 8 1/2″ x 11″. A nice suit or dress is appropriate for the interview. Look professional.

2. Lifestyle and Fitness in Swimsuit (15%) - you are actually judged about 20 seconds. Judges are looking for how well you maintain good physical fitness and health.

3. Artistic Expression in Talent (35%) - two minutes of talent, if you need accompaniment it may be tape or CD. Judges are looking at your interpretive ability, technical skill level and stage presence. The possibilities are endless for this portion of the show, some contestants choose to perform a vocal solo, dance, play an instrument, or perform a monologue.

4. Presentation and Poise in Evening Wear (20%) - Judges are looking at overall first impression, sense of confidence, personality and stage presence, technique (walk, posture, carriage and grace), appropriateness of evening wear and composite appearance.

5. On-stage questions (5%)  You return to the stage in your business suit and answer one question about your fact sheet.Â

We will help you assist in preparing for each portion of competition.

What is the time commitment for the Miss Holmen Scholarship Program?
Meetings/practices start in July, twice a week for about two to three hours and Mon-Thurs the two weeks before the show.  Practices are at the high school.  During this time the pageant committee prepares you for the interviews, helps select clothes and makes suggestions on your talent.  The Miss Holmen program owns several swimsuits and evening gowns you can use for the competition, so you do not have to make such purchases.  Attendance is required for every practice the week before the show.  A couple of production numbers that are part of the show will require you to learn some basic dance steps. You may be asked to purchase a few minor accessories for the production numbers of the show.

What will I win?
Scholarship money, everyone who participates receives at least $250.00 and the new Miss Holmen will receive a $2,000 scholarship upon completion of her year of service.

What is expected of me if I am selected to be Miss Holmen?
All Miss Holmen contestants are asked to participate in the activities Kornfest weekend, participating in the parade is a requirement to receive your scholarship.

You will be part of the Kornfest celebration on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of fest week.  You will also get the chance to participate in community service throughout the year, promoting the platform issue you choose.  Your year will also include representing Holmen at the Miss Wisconsin Pageant the next June.

It is a yearlong commitment, and we will help you every step of the way.  We are very excited you are interested in participating in the Miss Holmen Scholarship Program.
